True Remorse

A sign of a changing economy…. I have buyer’s remorse. The worst part about it is that I am regretting buying something that I actually NEED.

My last 2 favorite pairs of jeans have both met untimely ends within the past 2 weeks due to ripping. Why must it be so?? Just as soon as you have reached that point after many faithful wears that your jeans reach the perfect softness with the perfect fading – yes, the perfect wash of your designer denim DOES get better over time, when BAM… You are getting ready for work one morning, you bend down and hear that gut wrenching RRRRIIIIIPPPPPP. And just like that, a pair of jeans comes to an end. It’s upsetting enough that your favorite jeans are now over and done with, but then you have to consider – is it my fault?? Did I let my thighs get too big?

Which brings me to today…. Down to one pair of jeans (ok, ok so I have more than 1 pair, but let’s face it – some jeans are for emergencies only) I had one mission to accomplish during my lunch break. FIND A NEW PAIR OF JEANS. I had even set a budget. Well, kind of. I knew I didn’t want to spend more than $200, preferably around $150. Easy enough. I know what you are thinking, and NO I did not break my budget. I found a pair of jeans that I love that are very comfy and flattering (if I do say so myself). I debated for what seemed like forever in the dressing room on whether or not to get the jeans. I decided YES, I will get them and walked out of the dressing room feeling confident about my soon to be purchase. Once out in the open store I promptly flip-flopped and just as I was turning to put the jeans back and slink unnoticed out of the store I was approached by a very intimidating petite brunette in a lovely lilac colored Gypsy 05 maxi dress. A sales associate. “How did those work out for you?” “Great!” I say and head to the counter to buy the damn jeans and get the hell out of the store.

I could return them I suppose or sell them on Ebay, but the fact is they are cute and I DO need them. What’s a girl to do?

Running

Running is my hobby. It is one of the main ways I identify myself. What am I? I am a runner. No, I have never run a marathon, or even a half marathon, but that is all going to change this year. I have completed 2 5ks and 3 10ks, and each race I’ve gotten faster and faster. As much as racing defines a runner, I personally find the daily maintenance runs more important than the races. Getting out there every day whether it’s 30 or 100 degrees outside. Whether it’s pouring down rain or you’re pouring sweat just thinking about getting your 6 miles in when it’s 90 degrees and 90% humidity. That is how I define myself as a runner. I could train every day and never be the fastest, but I’m training every day and getting better. Also, I must say, I am pretty proud of my latest 10k time – 54:12.

Amy's Kitchen - Natural and Organic Frozen Foods!

Sick of eating all the mystery junk that comes in most frozen foods? Ick! How many times I have cringed reading the label of my supposedly "healthy" frozen lunch, only to proceed with eating it due to work related time restrictions? I don't know if I did any permanent damage eating all that extra junk, but I know my eating habits can definitely use some improvements. I'm going to incorporate foods from Amy's Kitchen into my diet in place of my other frozen entrees to see if the benefits of an all (or mostly) natural diet are all they are cracked up to be.

If you are like me and work through lunch, you need something that can be made quickly, and hopefully it's healthy, too. Well, Amy's seems to deliver - the foods of theirs that I have tried so far have been healthy and delicious without all the additives. Their ingredients are all natural, organic, and vegetarian, including hand-shaped pizza crusts! From Amy's Kitchen's website (http://www.amyskitchen.com/):

It’s delicious and it tastes homemade! Amy’s food tastes so good because it’s made from the kind of real food ingredients that people use in their own kitchens…no additives, no preservatives, no GMOs. If a child can’t pronounce it, you won’t find it on an Amy’s label. The cooking methods are like those used at home or in fine restaurants. For mashed potato dishes, fresh potatoes are cooked and mashed instead of being prepared with dehydrated flakes. Pizza crusts are shaped by hand. Sauces and gravies are made the old fashioned way, starting with a roux.

There are a wide variety of Amy's meals to choose from - the Country Cheddar Bowl, the Margherita Pizza, or my personal favorite, the Thai Stir Fry. Seriously, you have GOT to try it!
It seems like these days everyone is a blogging about something. People blog about fitness, food, family, fashion, etc. The possibilities are endless. Some people use blogging as an annonomous outlet to release their feelings and frustrations, similar to a journal. Others blog with the intent of being heard. Maybe you have some wisdom or advice to share, or maybe you are seeking empathy through a group of people caught in the same spot in life. Whatever intentions you may have, the resources are there and readily available for anyone who desires to easily create their very own blog.

The two most popular sites for getting started are Wordpress and Blogger. Chances are that everyone who has ever read a blog has read one created in one of these 2 programs. For a newbie, Blogger is probably the best bet. It is simple and easy to use - anyone who has ever posted in an internet forum should easily be able to navigate the format. You can select a theme and be up and blogging in minutes. For someone up to the challenge, Wordpress is similar to Blogger, yet more advanced, and it offers many more features. With the endless plugins available through Wordpress, the sky is the limit when it comes to customization.

Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka

After reading all the buzz about Firefly's Sweet Tea vodka I knew I had to try it. I consider myself to be a huge fan of a nice, cold, refreshing glass of sweet tea - almost a connoisseur if you will, and I was skeptical about whether this product would live up to its hype. Well, let me tell you.... it TOTALLY did!

I stumbled upon this by accident, really. I had read a couple of reviews of this product online and was interested, but I was just browsing in the liquor store looking for nothing in particular when I saw it on the shelf and remembered the good things I had heard about it. So, of course I knew I had to take a bottle home with me. My sister and I had planned a busy day of relaxing by the pool, and I thought this might be the perfect companion. It just sounds refreshing, doesn't it?

We weren't sure at first what to mix it with. There is a recipe on the bottle for a Southern Fly which is 1 half Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka, 1 half spring water over ice and garnished with a lemon. I thought this sounded pretty good, but an online search revealed this stuff is also delicious mixed with lemonade. Well, the Simply Lemonade at the grocery store was a whopping 110 calories per 8 oz serving, plus the 66 calories per 1 oz serving of vodka would lead to a pretty high-cal drink, so we went with the 5 calorie per serving Crystal Light lemonade. I couldn't believe how good this mixture was! It was so light and refreshing you couldn't even tell there was any alcohol in there at all! It tasted exactly like lemonade mixed with a splash of tea. Delish! It was the perfect summertime sidekick.

If anyone has tried the Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka in any other drink recipes that turned out good, let me know!

Heaven

If you haven't tried Luna & Larry's Organic Coconut Bliss coconut milk ice cream yet you are missing out. This stuff is utterly divine. I was lucky enough to stumble upon this frozen gem in my local Drug Emporium today, and I immediately snatched up a pint of Island Vanilla after reading about it on my favorite blog EatLiveRun.com. This stuff does not disappoint. It has a lovely light and creamy texture, and a deliciously coconutty vanilla flavor that is to die for. The only drawback is the price. At Drug Emporium it was $4.85 for 1 pint, but it was worth it. I can't wait to try some of the other flavors like Cherry Amaretto and Chocolate Hazelnut Fudge. Can you say YUM?!?
From their website (www.coconutbliss.com): As rich and creamy as premium ice cream, Luna & Larry's Coconut Bliss is a satisfying, delicious, and healthy alternative to dairy and soy-based frozen desserts. Made from a base of naturally rich coconut milk and sweetened with agave syrup, Luna & Larry's Coconut Bliss is certified organic, 100% vegan, kosher pareve, and made with certified fair trade ingredients.

Ahhh the life of a cat.....

Lounging in the sun all day, playing with a toy mouse here and there, dabbling in a little catnip from time to time, plopping down right in the middle of the bed when everyone goes to bed.... Sounds pretty nice to me. Meet Queenie. Like other cats you may have known, she definitely doesn't come up short in the personality or attitude department. And, as you can see, she has NEVER missed a meal. Do you think cats are like humans when it comes to their body image? I wonder if Queenie wonders why her belly swings when she runs, but the other cats have nice, lean mid-sections. Does Queenie know she has a double chin? I hope not.

The great outdoors

I absolutely love coming home and relaxing on my back porch. We have approx. 1.5 acres, and we get to see tons of wildlife. We have raccoons, opossums, fox, armadillos, rabbits, etc. that come on a daily basis! It's our own little slice of heaven right here in East Texas.
Last night Jody grilled some delicious pork chops while I watered the plants and enjoyed a glass of wine. Dinner was yummy - grilled pork chops, new potatoes, and spinich salad - delish!

Becoming a North

I became a North on October 8, 2008 at the Secrets Capri Riviera in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. It was HEAVEN. I always knew I wanted a beach wedding with a private ceremony, and it turned out to be everything I had ever hoped for. We didn't go to the JOP first, we actually got married in Mexico. It took several months to get our marriage certificate apostilled and shipped to us - much longer than I was anticipating - but it all worked out in the end! Our 7 day trip to get hitched in Mexico is without a doubt the best time of my entire life.

On Saturday I started and finished reading Confessions of a Shopaholic. It was SO good! Obviously it’s not intended to be a deep read, but it was a light, cute story, and you can’t help but fall in love with the main character, Rebecca Bloomwood by the time it’s all over, even after all her cringe-inducing moments. I’d definitely like to read some of Sophie Kinsella’s other books in the future. Oh, and of course I need to see the move now! I LOVE Isla Fisher!

Last night Jody and I finished watching The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and I must say it was one of the best movies I have seen in a long time. Brad Pitt was great as usual, and Cate Blanchett was STUNNING. I never realized before how beautiful she is, not to mention talented. This movie reminds me a lot of Forrest Gump – mainly because they are both good stories. My only complaint was the movie was LONG. It took us 3 sittings to get it finished, but it was worth it.

Welcome!

Hi everyone and welcome to my blog! I’m not going to be blogging on anything in particular, more like blogging on everything and anything I happen to find blog-worthy. Please read and comment often. I hope you enjoy it!
